Week 2 | Friday – Obeying God's Voice
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. JOSHUA 1:9, NIV
Any time God calls you to take a step of obedience, it’s scary at first. But if you fight through the fear and follow God, you’ll see the miraculous take place. When you obey God, here’s what you gain:
1. You gain God’s presence. In John 14:21, Jesus ties love and obedience together. He says, “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me, and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him” (NASB). You don’t obey Jesus out of duty or obligation. You obey because you love Him. And His promise is that He will be with you.
2. You gain generational impact. When you obey God, the people closest to you will see. Psalm 103:17-18 (NLT) says, “But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments!”
3. You gain courage. Courage isn’t the absence of fear. Courage is doing what God has called you to do in spite of fear. Each time you take a step of faith and fight through fear, God proves Himself faithful, and your courage will grow.
