Week 2 | Wednesday – How God Speaks
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
2 TIMOTHY 3:16, NIV
If you want to hear God’s voice, here are three ways God speaks to us today.
First, God speaks through Scripture. God will never speak something personally to you that contradicts what He’s already said in His Word. The great thing about the Bible is that you never have to wonder if it’s God or not. It’s all God-breathed. But you still have to know what His Word says in order to learn how to hear Him speak.
Second, God speaks through the Holy Spirit. One of the Holy Spirit’s jobs is to speak to you. His voice could be described as an inner witness that you sense, an impression or a strong recurring thought, a deep calming peace, a genuine excitement, or an inner warning or check in your spirit.
Finally, God speaks through the Church. That’s right, God will use the collective wisdom and counsel of the body of Christ to help you discern His voice. Sometimes it can be difficult to know when God is telling you something. This is where His people can help. God wants you to process your thoughts with other believers. And He can speak so strongly to you through these conversations. He can give you wisdom and direction.
The more time you spend in God’s Word, with God’s people, and listening to His Spirit, the more you will know His voice.
